The Township Neighbors Network (TNN), a community group serving Elk Rapids, Milton and Torch Lake Townships, recently wrote the Village expressing concern about land-based sewage sludge disposal. Here is an excerpt from and a link to the entire letter.
… there is now an issue that connects a Village action to two of our townships. This is the recent land disposal of 2.2 million gallons of human sewage sludge from your sewage treatment plant on farmland in Milton Township and Torch Lake Township. While this practice is legal, land disposing 5 tons of phosphates just before Thanksgiving risks run-off in spring long before crops are planted. Letter from TNN
